Premchand, an idealistic newspaper editor, is in love with Asha, an orphan he raised. Asha, however, falls for Puran, Premchand's radical star reporter. When Premchand compromises his journalistic ideals by making a deal with a corrupt businessman, Puran, true to his principles, quits and starts his own newspaper, "Naya Sansar." This act prompts Premchand to realize his error, return to his progressive stance, and ultimately bless the union of Asha and Puran.

Story of Reena, who gets into drugs.

Chand(Kishore Kumar) an aspiring lyricist as well as a singer goes to a dance shows and sees Mala ( Meena Kumari ) doing a dance show. He is overwhelmed with Meena Kumari's performance as a dancer and decides that if she can get Mala to dance to his songs, it will be a winning combination. However the owner of the company that Mala dances for is skeptical to the proposition. However before anything happens Chand's father vehemently opposes the idea and Chand being totally disappointed and frustrated leaves house and moves over to Bombay to try his musical talent. He takes his friend Karim ( Johnny Walker) and his girl friend Raina ( Kum Kum ) with him and puts up with his garage owner friend in the city. They start doing shows and comes to attention of Mala who eventually asks her owner Ashok Babu ( Pran ) to hire Chand to sing songs with Mala dancing together.

Kavita (Ashwini Bhave) is a lead singer of a boy band consisting of four member Javed Jaffrey,Laxmikanth Berde,Asif Sheikh and Sahil Chaddha. She has a a very close friendship with the boys.But after her marriage her husband suspects her of having an affair with them.

Madhukar and Jaggu are Hitler-like tyrants who rule over a small community with an iron hand. They prefer to keep the inhabitants illiterate, so that they can continue to oppress and abuse them over time. But one young lad, Ramu, educates himself secretly with the help of the local school-master, Srikanth. Years later, Ramu has grown up and is now a formidable force to reckon with. Madhukar and Jaggu see him as a threat and soon spin a web of lies and deceit around him, leaving him with no alternative except to retreat, leaving the poor villagers once again at their mercy of their oppressors.
